The poem, “The Rebel’ describes the character of an apostate, a person who does not conform to the norms of society. This apostate is described as a person who could argue with others in order to stand out as different. The rebel character in the poem is not based on a political activist but looks like a portrait of a young, self-deprecating character. Every event in this poem is a repeated confirmation of this fact.
The Rebel Poem Class 7_IN BOOK:
When everybody has short hair,
The rebel lets his hair grow long.
When everybody has long hair,
The rebel cuts his hair short.
When everybody talks during the lesson,
The rebel doesn’t say a word.
When nobody talks during the lesson,
The rebel creates a disturbance.
When everybody wears a uniform,
The rebel dresses in fantastic clothes.
When everybody wears fantastic clothes,
The rebel dresses soberly.
In the company of dog lovers,
The rebel expresses a preference for cats.
In the company of cat lovers,
The rebel puts in a good word for dogs.
When everybody is praising the sun,
The rebel remarks on the need for rain.
When everybody is greeting the rain,
The rebel regrets the absence of the sun.
When everybody goes to the meeting,
The rebel stays at home and reads a book.
When everybody stays at home and reads a book,
The rebel goes to the meeting.
When everybody says, Yes please,
The rebel says, No thank you.
When everybody says, No thank you,
The rebel says, Yes, please.
It is very good that we have rebelled.

Ans: The teacher would scold the student who would not be dressed in the school uniform while coming to the school.

Ans: When everyone wants a clear sky, the rebel wants the sun.
Q. C) If the rebel has a dog for a pet, what is everyone else likely to have?
Ans: Everyone else is likely to have a pet cat.
Q. D) Why is it good to have rebels?
Ans: It is good to have apostates because we see how the community looks at him and if that is bad we will work for ourselves not to be rebellious.
Q. E) Why is it not good to be a rebel oneself?
Ans: It is not good to be a rebel because it makes us intolerant towards the choices of others and may also feel unwanted and excluded from the group.
Q. F) Would you like to be a rebel? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Ans: No, I would not like to be a rebel. But, definitely, I will respect the choices of others. I don’t want to become a rebel because I don’t want people to judge me otherwise.
